Faithfilled technologies facebook page qr codeCell phones are not just used for talking anymore. Within just a few short years, many mobile phones have become “smart,” allowing users to access the Internet and stay connected. Games, books, movies, music and more are all on one device that fits in your pocket. Millions are using mobile devices for entertainment, but should they be used more often as a worship tool?

That’s exactly what many churches across the U.S. are doing now. One example is Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Woburn, Massachusetts. They are encouraging followers to use smart devices as worship tools by adding a Quick Response (QR) code to their Facebook page. The code can be scanned by any smart device and allows users to view the Sunday liturgy booklet.

BizReport.com reported that 2011 saw a major increase in the printing of QR codes. “In 2011 almost 4,500 QR codes appeared within ads and editorial of the U.S.’s top 100 magazines. The year started off with 352 codes in Q1. It grew to 1,899 in Q4, which is 439% growth,” released the website.

QR codes can be a powerful technology tool for both churches and their congregations. Church leaders can stay connected to the members by keeping updated information available through the QR codes, and members can easily share prayer requests or upcoming church event information with potential new members.

A great benefit of QR codes is that they are measurable, meaning that it is possible to track how many times the code is scanned. This allows you to see how successful the codes are.

Tell us your ideas for using QR codes as a worship tool to spread God’s Word.
